The primary difference between the Formal Album and the Coffee-Table Album is the page thickness.
The Formal Album pages are 1/16 inch thick.
The Coffee-Table Album pages are 1/32 inch thick.
The photo to the right (or below) shows a Formal Album next to a Coffee-Table Album, both with the same number of pages.
The Formal Album's pages are thick to keep larger pages from warping. The thinner Coffee-Table Album pages may warp at longer widths, so there are no 14 inch rectangular size options for the Coffee Table album.
Other differences...
The wrap-around-print cover is available on the Coffee-Table Album only.
The acrylic cover is available on the Formal Album only.
The Formal Album can hold up to 60 pages, max. While the Coffee-Table Album can hold up to 90 pages, max.
Other than the page thickness the albums are practically identical. Most couples prefer the thinner Coffee-Table Album. Couples tend to get the Formal Album only if they want an 11"x14" size, or an acrylic cover.
